Press Maintenance Engineering Apprentice
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship at Unipres?
When I was in school I didn’t know much about what engineering was as my school did not offer any courses to do with engineering, however upon attending careers fayres and speaking to family members about what engineering is and what it entails I knew that that would be the path I would like to take.
When I left school I attending a pre-apprenticeship studying engineering level 2 to ensure that it was definitely the route I wanted to take, and it was. I took part in a work experience at both Nissan Manufacturing UK and Unipres UK Limited and really enjoyed my time when I was there, I then knew that the automotive industry was the one I wanted to pursue my career in.
What skills have you learnt whilst on your apprenticeship
My apprenticeship has benefitted me in many ways it has boosted my confidence in a lot of ways, I have experienced opportunities I would have never even thought I would and I have met some great people along the way.
Since joining Unipres, I’ve become more confident and put into practice all the skills I’ve learned during my apprenticeship, whether those are my personal skills, electrical skills or mechanical skills…I use them all on a daily basis
What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?
I have always been told to take any opportunity that I am offered as it will path the way for my future and might give me an opportunity to progress or change my rob role if I ever wanted to.
Just do it never be afraid to try something new, you never know where that path will take you. You would rather have the experience and learn from it then wonder what if.
What are you most proud of doing on your apprenticeship?
One of my proudest achievements was winning the Women in Engineering Society (WES) Top 50 in 2019 in the category current and former apprentices. I got to travel to London to receive the award.
What do you hope to have achieved in the next five years?
I hope to progress within my job role and career and continue to learn new things every day. I also hope that I can pass on my knowledge and experience to younger generations and create a diverse workplace for the future.
