We are offering a 4 year Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship specifically tailored to our Die Maintenance Department (toolmaking and die maintenance). Working for a world class steel pressing company Unipres UK Limited – this apprenticeship is specifically aimed at developing the next generation of Maintenance Technicians.

Salary: £19,961.04 

What will the apprentice be doing?

Year 1 of the apprenticeship: 5 days off the job training at a specialist Training Provider – learning both practical and theoretical skills in engineering.

Year 2 until the completion of the apprenticeship: 4 days on the job training based at the Unipres plant followed by continued studies 1 day a week with a specialist Training Provider (College).

Die Maintenance Department:

  • Fixing and maintaining the tools that go into the presses – mechanically biased).
  • Repairing and maintaining press tools using the stamping of steel components
  • You will learn how to use milling machines, lathes, surface grinders and specialist welding techniques.
  • Hand tools such as hacksaws, files and pneumatic grinders.

This apprenticeship is specifically tailored to the Tool & Die pathway.

Training and qualification levels

The successful candidates will gain a full Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Standard – pathway Tool & Die Maintenance. You will work alongside other talented technicians within our Die Maintenance Department gaining the relevant skills.

The qualifications the apprentice will receive are as follows:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Award Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Tool & Die Maintenance
  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF)

Working week details

Year 1: College – 8:30am – 15:30pm (Transport provided from Unipres Sunderland throughout year 1 to Training Provider)

Years 2 – 4: Unipres plant 4 days a week – 6:45am – 15:03pm (day shift times)

Shifts are dependent on age and department

College day release one day a week in years 2 – 4 – 9:00am – 16:00pm
