Unipres UK – Family Ties
As part of the Unipres UK 30th anniversary celebrations, Apprentice Maintenance Technicians, Grace Edmundson and Jack Simm sat down with their fathers Senior Supervisor Colin and Tutor/Assessor Steve to discuss roles at the Sunderland factory and how a global company works hard to attract young local talent.
It is not unusual for several generations of the same family to work at Unipres UK. Both Colin and Steve have been employed at the Washington plant since it opened, 30 years ago and now passing on their knowledge, experience and passion for the business to the next generation of engineers and technicians.

Quality apprenticeships
Unipres is always on the lookout for new apprentices and we work hard to not only attract the best and brightest, but also ensure the training they receive is of the highest quality.
We have invested over £2m in the Unipres Training Academy at our Sunderland plant which is producing qualified apprentices in its simulated manufacturing environment.
The Academy is equipped with the robots, machinery and equipment that is currently being used on the factory floor, enabling apprentices to learn the ropes using the exact equipment they will utilise when on the job.
Unipres works with the North East Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (NEAAN), a group of companies spearheading the drive for employers and young people to commit to apprenticeships.
