Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprentice

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship at Unipres?

I have always been interested in manufacturing since a young age and studied Engineering at GCSE level when I was in secondary school and then moved into an electrical apprenticeship once I had left. I was 17 when I started the apprenticeship and have taken a great interest in this career path, hoping to progress when I eventually finish. It opens many career paths for me to choose which one to go down, it’s also valuable experience for my future at the company when I decide what route is best for me.

What skills have you learnt whilst on your apprenticeship?

I have gained a lot of work experience and manufacturing knowledge, skills and behaviours during my Lean Manufacturing apprenticeship. I also feel like I am developing into a better person and I am gaining new skills and further knowledge every day and have now realised that on the shop floor you need to be resilient and giving up is not something you can do.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

Always continue to work hard and your goals will come to you as long as you are willing to put the time and effort into your role, this will make things a lot easier in the end if you show your dedication and take responsibility at all times.

What are you most proud of doing on your apprenticeship?

My proudest career achievement would be achieving this apprenticeship and I have gathered a lot of knowledge since I started here in May and hope to achieve more as I progress in the company.

What do you hope to have achieved in the next five years?

In the next 5 years, I would like to have progressed through a maintenance apprenticeship in the company, which is definitely something I would love to do in the future once I finish this apprenticeship. I am aware that there is progression routes from my level 2 LMO apprenticeship as an operator and with experience potentially team leader/supervisor or progression to a higher-level apprenticeship which are both great career paths and I’d enjoy both of them.
