Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship at Unipres?

The reason why I wanted to pursue a career in manufacturing industry is due the amount of opportunities there are to progress and work your way to the top. I decided to take an interest in manufacturing at the age of 15 half way through year 11 when I visited UPUK for a careers fair and really saw the benefits of working for the industry and how it would benefit me in later years. I officially started at UPUK in August 2019 at the age of 16 after just leaving school and it was the greatest decision I have ever made.

What skills have you learnt whilst on your apprenticeship?

Purchasing has taught me how to be independent and to negotiate a situation if the opposite does not agree with you. Another benefit of an apprenticeship is getting paid while you are working on the job this allows you to buy your own personal items and save for bigger items like a car or even a house. Overall, because of an apprenticeship at Unipres I have improved my confidence and how I speak to people, Unipres has taught me many life skills and how I can improve as an individual.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

If you are wanting to gain excellent experience and pursue a life changing career that can have hundreds of benefits then the manufacturing sector as an apprentice is the right thing to do. There are many roles in which you can progress ranging all the way from Purchasing to Press maintenance.

What are you most proud of doing on your apprenticeship?

My proudest career achievement so far is completing cost reductions with the purchasing team. One example of my savings would be the phone contract which I have saved over £10000. I have a number of cost reductions left to introduce that will save the company quite a bit of money.

What do you hope to have achieved in the next five years?

In five years, I see myself passing my apprenticeship as well as gaining level 4 and starting my degree or starting CIPS. I also see myself gaining a high role in Unipres UK either a controller or senior.
